Infant Massage Lessons
Infant massage is an "age old" tradition used in many cultures. Studies of cross–cultural societies have found that babies, that were massaged, carried, held, rocked, and breast feed, in adulthood were less aggressive and violent, and showed more compassion and cooperation.
Vimala McClure introduced infant massage in the United States in the early 1970’s, after traveling around India and working in an orphanage there. She witnessed first hand a 12 year old girl who massage all the children in the orphanage. Even with the lack of proper nutrition , the children thrived which she attributed to the massage they received.
Vimala developed an effective massage process that is described in her book, Infant Massage: A Handbook for Loving Parents. This handbook is what the International Association of Infant Massage is based on.
Infant massage instruction is scheduled as 3, 60 minute classes where the parent/caregiver is taught to massage their baby.
